Frequently Asked Questions

What should I expect at my first visit?

The first visit is an opportunity for us to clarify your treatment goals. As such, I will be asking about the history of your presenting concern, family history, any mental health history, and more importantly your goals. Together, we will discuss treatment options and make a decision based on your needs.

Do you accept insurance?

Not at this time.

What is the cancellation and no-show policy?

I ask that you contact me within 24-hours to cancel or reschedule. Otherwise, a full charge for the session will occur for missed appointments.

Do you offer evening and weekend appointments?

Yes. I offer evenings and weekends at an additional $25 per visit. Refer to Fees.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions for each client is different. The differences are based on the presenting concern, chronicity and intensity of the issue, and client personal or contextual factors. We can usually get a general sense during our phone consultation and usually by the intake when we formulate a treatment plan. Note that the number of treatment sessions can range from 12-25 (ADAA, APA, Mayo Clinic, Cully et al.) depending on the issue and symptom severity.

How often should we meet?

This also depends on the similar above factors. Usually, it is recommended that clients meet weekly for about 6 visits, especially when doing exposure-based treatment. By the 4th-6th visit, we usually reassess whether we are meeting your goals and make adjustments as needed. Some clients who have progressed in their treatment, eventually taper off to meeting every two weeks then to every three weeks. Some clients decide to meet monthly or every other month even after they've met their goals, as by this point, therapy has evolved into an insight-oriented, supportive, or maintenance approach.Â
